SoulMaid Beginnings 2017

I was always a creative person who saw something (e.g. home decor, furniture, art, graphic designs, jewelry, basically anything that required craftsmanship or creativity and a little technical understanding of how to use tools), and thought “Mmhh…. I think I can do this myself”.

In the beginning of 2017 I started wrapping my own crystal jewelry. I was so much into creating new pieces that I gave all of my friends and family members, who did NOT ask for it, a crystal necklace for their birthdays. And while each of these pieces was full of love and good intentions, the style left a little room for improvement. At this point I want to THANK YOU ALL for showing me the same love a mother has for the art of her child, no matter how it looks.

Since I love everything EXTRAVAGANT and not so common, I experienced and made my own pieces with large crystal clusters. And people actually loved it. One lady walked up to me on the subway, asking where I purchased my necklace. When I mentioned that I made it, she asked if I sell these. So i thought about that for a few moments and decided to do exactly that.

In the summer of the same year I quit my corporate job and decided to finally listen to that part of my soul I had ignored for way too long.

A month later, in September 2017, I had my first booth on EASTERN PARKWAY (Labor day)! West Indian Day Parade HERE I COME! I prepared and thought through so many things, not expecting WIND to be the most challenging factor of that adventure. After sleepless nights (in my mind there was no such thing as “enough” jewelry for that day, so I worked days and nights), and a crazy trip through pouring rain and talking a guy into opening a closed shop to sell me the tent I needed so badly (since my online order was cancelled the same day I was supposed to receive it!), I was more than happy to finally be able and set everything up at 7AM on the parkway.

At some point in the middle of the day it became pretty stormy and my tent was about to fly away, so was the table and jewelry! All I wanted to do was pack up & go home, I was a bit frustrated. At some point I started finding it pretty funny how we held onto the tent (because that thing was about to take off and fly over BK) as if we were holding onto the subway bars. My friend and I laughed at the whole situation. Every person who walked by or stood next to the tent when the storm made it move again, had amazing reflexes and helped holding it right away. I remember this one woman who checked out my jewelry and automatically held onto the top bars (subway style) like it was the most normal thing in the world. We life hacked the sh*t out of that stand. Connected our cart, the fire extinguisher and a plastic bag with water bottle to add some weight. I used jewelry wired to tie a heavy backpack to the table cloth and taped the jewelry displays to the table. The greatest thing was all the help from vendors around us. They were understanding & helpful, saying they all started out at some point, knowing how that felt. Because that day they were PREPARED for EVERYTHING. But I guess that’s the part experience teaches us.

At the end of the day the tent broke and I had to throw it away (after ALL that hassle, right?!). But seeing how freaking amazing every single one was who showed love and support in any possible way, was more than heart warming.

Thanks to all of you and thanks to the wind which turned out to be a BLISSing, reminding me about the true meaning of events like this!

After that event I was extra motivated to share the power of love and crystals with all of you.
